When you talk with someone at Families Outside, what you say will NOT be discussed with anyone without your permission.

Click here to find out more…

If you talk to one of us about something that we feel is dangerous for you or another person, and they are concerned about your or the other persons safety, we may need to tell someone else. We will talk with you about this first.

We may ask you if it is OK to speak with someone else (e.g. a teacher or doctor or social worker). If you do not want to tell anyone else, but we think that you need to be protected and kept safe, then we may have to go against your wishes. You will be told if this is going to happen.

Our first priority is to make sure that you are safe.

Talking about prison

Talking about someone in prison can sometimes be difficult. It may help you to read a story about Emma and Jamie and what happened when their dad went to prison.

Questions You May Have

All children cope with things differently, but you will probably want to know what is happening, just like Emma and Jamie did…

Are We There Yet?

What about keeping in touch with your mum or dad or someone else you love who is in prison?

Feeling Happy, Feeling Sad

“I miss my mum …..”  Sometimes it helps to talk to an adult about why you may be feeling sad or if you are worried.

Hey, what about…

Why not send a picture to someone you know? Get someone to help you colour in Emma or Jamie or even Hamish, or why not draw a picture and frame it?

Some More Stuff To Look At

Something else that might help - more books you can read by yourself or with someone else. There are also other people or organisations who may be able to help.
