Call for families – research on the financial cost of imprisonment

Research on the financial cost of imprisonment

abrdn Financial Fairness Trust has funded Families Outside to explore and address the financial cost of prison. This research can involve anyone supporting someone in prison and applies to all ages that can articulate the costs and losses they have experienced as a result of having a loved one in prison. The research is also interested in the costs involved in supporting people after release. The interview can be by phone, on Zoom/Teams, or face to face. Interviews would take around 40 minutes, and participants would receive a £20 voucher by way of thanks for a high street store of their choice.

The aim of this research is to identify changes needed and to share lessons learned to improve practice and policy across Scotland and the UK.

More information can be found on this leaflet about the research.

Please let those you are working with or have supported within the past year know about this work and ask them if they would like to be involved. If they want to take part and are willing to have their contact details passed on, please contact Briege Nugent either by emailing briegenugentresearch@gmail.com, or you can phone or text her on 07568 140680. Families can also contact Briege directly, and she will then arrange with them a time that suits.
