Visiting the Prison

Visits to HMP Barlinnie have been temporarily suspended.

Following advice from Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Protection Team and the Scottish Government The Scottish Prison Service are suspending visits to HMP Barlinnie with immediate effect.

HMP Barlinnie is regarded as a household and is within the area covered by the recent restrictions.

People coming from the affected areas – Glasgow City, West Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire – should not visit any Scottish prison.

These arrangements will be kept under review and further information will be posted when it is available.

Please note that virtual visits are unaffected by these changes.

Buses: First Bus number 38 / 38A / 38C

Visitor Centre Information

HMP Barlinnie has a Visitors’ Centre service provided by The Croft.

Due to the Coronavirus The Croft is supporting families remotely.

Open Monday to Friday 11am -6pm

Saturday and Sunday 9.30am – 5pm

(closed 1-2pm each day for lunch)

Staff are available via anytime or you can complete the website enquiries form

The service is based in the entrance area in HMP Barlinnie.

In normal circumstances the service offers:

  • Hot Drinks
  • Information, support and advice
  • Toys, Books, and Games for children

You can contact the Croft in advance of your visit.
