It’s Time to Act Art Competition – Winners Announced

As part of Children of Prisoners Europe’s #NotMyCrimeStillMySentence Campaign Families Outside ran an Art Competition to raise awareness of  ‘It’s Time to Act’, the child-friendly version of the Council of Europe Recommendation CM/Rec(2018)5 concerning children with imprisoned parents.

‘It’s Time to Act’ was created in order to allow children themselves to become aware of and understand the Recommendation’s articulation of their rights.

The competition was designed to encourage children and young people to choose one of the selected 10 articles from the Recommendation  and encourage them to draw or paint a visual representation of the article they choose.

We received some amazing entries, and all of the young people who took part clearly put a lot thought into the Articles and created some extremely powerful artwork.

The judges had a very difficult decision to make and, after much deliberation, have awarded the prizes as follows:

  1. First Prize: Lily-Jess, age 7
  2. Second Prize: Katie, age 11
  3. Third Prize (a tie!): James, age 10, and Liam, age 12

ALL of the entries will be made into postcards for Children of Prisoners Europe (COPE) to send to Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). This will help the MEPs know what it’s like for you to have a parent in prison so that they can work to make positive change for the benefit of children and families affected by imprisonment.
