A Trip to the Castle

When prisoners move to open conditions (an opportunity to progress towards release with periods of extended home leave and work placements in the community), it can be full of mixed emotions – for families as well as prisoners.

The Family Support Team visited HMP Castle Huntly, Scotland’s only open prison facility for males, on a sunny day in April to find out more about some of the issues people encounter when preparing for release and what kind of support would be helpful.

We had very interesting conversations with staff from HMP Castle Huntly and came away with lots of ideas; we’re looking forward to working more closely together over the coming months!
